Tom's Midnight Garden

          I just finished a book called Tom's Midnight Garden. It was a really good book. The image below is the cover of the book I read. There are many other covers too. You can look for this or ask if the book has the same title but different cover.


Tom's Midnight Garden is a very good book written by Philipa Pearce.

Book Summary
         Tom was going to spend his summer on doing many great stuffs with his brother, Peter. However, somehow, his brother got some sort of measles and had to move to live with his aunt and uncle. His aunt's house is very big and has lots of facilities as well as treats for Tom, but Tom doesn't enjoy them, he thinks that it is boring. Tom likes adventures, he loves to go into creepy journeys. Therefore, he didn't enjoy living with his uncle and aunt. They always made him sleep early and cared for him like he is a baby, that made Tom really uncomfortable. He always blamed his mom in his head about making him to leave home and come to such a boring place until one day. One day, Tom can't sleep and found out something wrong about the Grandfather Clock that is ticking loudly downstair. He wandered around the clock and found a door that lead moonlight in. When he opened the door, he felt very freshened and when he walked through it, he saw a beautiful garden where it's supposed to be a place where trash and garbage are, according to his aunt. He was upset at the fact that his aunt had lied to him. However, when he pull the door open the next day, he can't find the garden anymore. The thought then came to him, the garden only appears at midnight.  From that day, every night, he came down to that garden and explored it. In one night, he met a girl named Hatty, he and her started to hang out with each other in the garden and talked about all sorts of things in the world that they can find and talk about. From that day, he didn't want to leave the house, he wanted to stay with it, with the garden, and mostly, with Hatty. However, he had to leave to go back home when his brother recovered from his measles. What happened to them? Will they ever meet again, Hatty and Tom? Read and find out.

About the author: Philipa Pearce
          Her full name is Ann Philipa Pearce. Pearce was born on the 23rd of January 1920 and died on the 21 of December 2006. She is an author, as you know, she wrote this book. She is from Britain. She started school late because of her illness. She was educated in the Perse School for Girls in Cambridge. She attended  Girton College in Cambridge after winning a scholarship to read English and History there. After getting her degree, she left university and moved to London and found work as a civil servant. She remained 13 years as a writer and producer of schools radio programmes for the BBC. She was a children's editor at the Oxford University Press from 1958 to 1960 and at André Deutsch publishing house.
